Sharing my blog goals. Are you in?

Today is the first day of Blogging 201.  This will expand over the next two weeks; therefore, my posts will likely be solely related to the assignments.  If you did not join the group, perhaps you can tag along with me!  Our task is to layout three goals for our blog.  This part I find easy.  The part I find more difficult is that we are to be specific…like, include numbers and percentages!  Oh my!  With that aside, I am very happy to share this information with my followers, as many of you have been so kind and supportive of my journey thus far.  I think it is a wonderful idea to let you know a bit more about myself and my purpose here.  Thanks for joining me.

1.  My purpose from the beginning was to tell my story.  Why?  What makes me so special?  Well, I’m glad you asked.  I am no more special than anyone else to be honest, I just happen to be writing it down for all to see.  I enjoy writing and I think I’m pretty good at it, at times.  I do have a tale to tell that I think is interesting, but more importantly, I think it could be helpful.  My ultimate purpose in telling my story is to help others in the same situation.  Help others who have had/or are having affairs.  Help others going through divorce.  Help others who are debating divorce.  I also enjoy writing about other topics (i.e. raising children) that are thought provoking and can bring about positive changes in our lives.  To share my story and related bits, my first goal is to post 1-2 times per week.

2.  Now, if I want to help people, I need to reach them.  This will actually consist of a few goals.  I would like to double my followers on WP and Twitter by the end of June.  I would also like to add another avenue of social media such as, Facebook, Google +, or Instagram.  I am hoping to learn more about social media and its usefulness during this course.  Hopefully, it will also help me decide which one of these to pursue.  I would like to have this new media up and running by the end of May.  Lastly, I want to spend about 20 minutes, two to three times per week reading and commenting on other blogs.  I think this will help grow my following as well, plus I enjoy it!

3.  Lastly, my goal is to earn a book contract.  I have dreamed of writing a book for many years and finally, I am attempting that dream.  If it happens, fantastic.  If not, well, at least I finally tried.  I know I have reached some people and I can say I enjoyed the ride.  It would be wonderful to earn a living writing and helping others.  I honestly see myself traveling and talking in front of a large groups of people someday.  That is where I want to be within the next two years.  Lofty goal, I know, but anything is possible and I am definitely not getting any younger!  To earn such an honor, I would also like to continue with the weekly DP Challenges.  I feel these help me grow and expand as a writer.  They are super fun, too!  It is a nice break to write about other topics for a change.  Reading and engaging with the many people that I follow also helps me grow as a writer and provides some great ideas.  They are writing so many beautiful things, it is hard to keep up, but I am trying!

Can I add a #4?  Well, I am a rebel at heart and have been accused of being an over-achiever more than once.  My #4 is that I would like to change the name of my blog.  It is boring and meaningless.  Problem is, I don’t know what to change it to!  I want to be a writer and I can’t come up with a name?!?  That’s kind of sad!  So my last and final goal is to come up with a kick-ass blog name by the end of April.  Wish me luck!

  1. You have nice goals. I too have been working on getting around and commenting more on other blogs. I enjoy it but its tedious. I have to limit my internet time and reading a lot confuses me. I begin to question if I am understanding something the way its meant to be relayed (but I suppose understanding is fluid). Regarding your blog name, I would say sit down and truly think about what you are trying to say, then begin playing around with names.

  2. Hi! Maybe you are still embracing change and despite you’d like your blog to be happy and hopefull you are also a bit sad? That’s so fine for a blog too because it is your very true self! I say this with respect and care. I love your Chey name!

      1. I love it!!! Life is full of changes and that is fun and a bit poetic too! Do YOU like it?

      2. Well..I did, but someone mentioned it sounds political and I can see that. Chey on Change..Vote for me! lol I think I’ll keep working on it. It will hit me at some point.

      3. I had to go downtown to buy some chocolate eggs for tomorrow, we are celebrating our kids birthday. In the way you came to my mind (I tend to think calm and peacefully when I drive without kiddos in the back seat)… Since I’m in Argentina, the change thing for me means nothing but change, transformation, not a political campaign. Anyhow, what I feel reading your post and your thought is you are looking for something… that means a transformation too… maybe on that line you get an idea? I’d love to have your feedback too… I’ve been thinking about a better line under my title but I’m not sure… you can find me at http://amararama.wordpress.com
        Love, Fernanda

      4. Do you have children whose b-day is tomorrow? I ask because I do! My twins’ b-day is tomorrow.
Thank you so much for your thoughts…I am adding them to my list of ideas!
I looked at your blog. I really like how you can see so many of your posts at once. I think categories might help though. The more posts you write, the more difficult it may get to navigate. I like what you have under your title (it is beautiful), but I don’t know if it is specific enough. You wrote the following in your about me page:
“…authenticity finding the U turn that guides me back to my essence. I´m just after the calm joy of expressing what´s born in my heart and piles up in the print queue of my mind: True Word Seeds”
It is really beautiful, maybe part of the first or second sentence could go under your title??

      5. Yes Chey! I was also re-reading my about and I thought the U turn thing clearly addresses my search… I’ll dream about that for a while and see what comes out. You’re right, my actual tagline is not specific enough.
I have a real mess with my categories and tags, I know I have to sort that better, only with time I really understood what was the difference between both and I used too many categories (and too little tags). I feel lazy to recap the old posts categories, me vagrant blogger thing.
I do celebrate my two younger boys b-day tomorrow!! The middle one turned 9 last Sunday and the little one turned 6 in February but at that time we have Summer Holidays and no one stays in the big city so we waited to celebrate when school had started and all friends and family were back. Good luck with your twins tomorrow!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR FEEDBACK!! Love, Fernanda

      6. You’re welcome sweetie!! The “tags” you place on posts are what help people find the post. For example, if you tagged a post “Poem” and I searched the word “Poem”, then your post would pop up along with everyone else who used that tag. Creating a category is like making separate boxes to put your posts in. Such as, you could have a category called “Me & my children” (bad example sorry) and then all your posts that are related to this subject would be put into this category (by you, of course). So I could click on this category and see all your work specific to you and your children. You Tube has great videos on this stuff. WP has a pdf you can download as well that tells you how to do this. Hope this helps for when you’re feeling ready to tackle this!

      7. Yes it does! Thank you!! I did not get time to come back here until now, yesterday was a busy day! I hope you had a great b-day with your kids! Ours was really beautiful, we had a lovely day in the countryside with good friends!

  3. Love that you’re reaching for the sky with number 3! Your first 2 goals are similar to mine. #4 is hard but so important! “Chey on Change” would make me think this is a political blog.

Maybe think about your target audience and the questions they might ask google if they were looking for something like your site. Chey is a great name, but it tells us nothing about what you write here!

    1. Oh my, I didn’t think about the political reference until you mentioned it! Well…the search continues. Thank you for your thoughts!!

  4. I admire your spirit and I think it’s amazing that you dream so big. You have enough heart to do all of that and more, so I’ll be here silently cheering you on like so many others, albeit from the sidelines of anonymity 🙂

  5. By the way… you ARE special 😉 And I am glad you are a rebel! This is a good goal. I have always felt that our stories are wasted if we don’t share them. Because somewhere, someone can learn from them! So glad you’re here!
